- about the game
Blast Factory has a website. From now on every patch note lands here, and the roadmap shows what's planned, what's being built and what's in testing. Both are posted straight from development, so they're as current as the game.
If you're new, here's what Blast Factory is.
A weapons workshop, one pixel at a time
Blast Factory is a sandbox about building ammunition. You design a round pixel by pixel - the casing, the charge, the fuze, the fins, even the electronics - then fire it at structures and at the dummies standing in them. Every pixel is a real material with its own weight, strength and chemistry, and every pixel is simulated when it hits.
Design a round
The Round Designer: a round painted pixel by pixel, then fired across the range into its target
Paint it, fire it, see what's left.
The Round Designer gives you a launcher's chamber and dozens of materials to fill it with: steel and Gravium penetrators, Blastite charges, copper liners for shaped charges, Thrustane rocket motors, napalm gels, fuels, gases and stranger things. Then wire it up with electronics: impact, proximity, heat and pressure sensors, timers and altimeters, heat and laser seekers, parachutes, servos and gyros.
Fire it
A shell crossing the range into a two-storey frame with dummies inside, its pressure wave rippling out
On the range: the shell, the pressure wave, then the building.
On the range you pick your launcher - Light 8, Standard 16, Heavy 24, Siege 32 or a mortar - aim and fire. Shells punch through walls, shaped charges cut jets of metal through armour, blasts send real pressure waves through the air, fires spread, and buildings that lose their supports come down. Watch it again in slow motion, down to 0.001x, and export the best moments as clips.
Every pixel counts
Close-up: a round striking reactive armour, the armour blowing outward in a burst of sparks and shock rings
Reactive armour answering a hit.
Materials behave like what they are. Steel stops what it can, ceramic shatters, reactive armour kicks back, timber burns and Snapite goes off if you look at it wrong. Pick the pixel size to match your patience, from 10 cm Standard to 1.25 cm Insane.
From the air, and from over the hill
A bomb dropped from a jet falling onto a structure on the range
A bomb run, timed by hand.
Not everything comes out of a barrel. Fly bomb runs and missile strikes from a jet, lob shells with mortars, launch rockets off a rail, or launch a ballistic missile from a silo and bring its warhead down on the target.
The dummies
A blast's shockwave rolling across the ground and throwing dummies
A shockwave versus the test dummies.
Every test has dummies in it: armour on, standing at their posts. They're thrown by blast waves, burned by fireballs, hurt limb by limb, and the ones that can get back up do. They take a lot of punishment. They're not quite what they seem, either - more on that soon.
Weather
A thermobaric round going off in falling snow, a frame structure tipping over in the blast
Thermobaric in the snow.
Shoot in snow, fog, rain, thunderstorms or at night. Weather isn't just a backdrop - cold makes things brittle, rain douses fires, fog hides the flash and lightning strikes the range.
Career
The factory's plant floor in 3D: machines on the line, light falling across them
Your plant floor.
In Career you run an ammunition company. Clients write in with jobs; you design a round to their rules, prove it on their test range, then build it on your own plant floor. Research new chemistry, hire staff, keep the bank happy, and watch out for the rival firms bidding on the same work.
Duels
Two volleys landing on the same building in a duel, explosions throwing debris
A duel volley.
In Duels two players get the same map and a clock to design a round against. Fire your volleys, then watch the replays side by side to see whose round did more. Play hot-seat, against the house bot or the daily challenge. Online duels over Steam are in testing.
Map Designer
The Map Designer: placing a watchtower, a bunker and targets on a hillside, then testing the map
Shape the land, place the targets, test it.
The Map Designer lets you build your own tests: shape the ground, dig tunnels, place structures and dummies, set the rules and win conditions, then play them in Challenge mode or share them.
